CCS2, CHAdeMO and Bharat DC: which connector does your car actually use?

Connector confusion is the single most common reason a driver arrives at a station and cannot charge. The good news is that the answer for most cars sold in India today is one word: CCS2.

CCS2 — the default

Combined Charging System type 2 is the standard for nearly every passenger EV launched in India since 2019. It stacks two DC pins beneath a Type 2 AC connector, so the same port handles both slow AC charging at home and fast DC charging on the road. Tata, MG, Hyundai, Kia, Mahindra, BYD, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo all use it.

CHAdeMO — the legacy fast standard

A Japanese standard, still found on older imported cars and some commercial vehicles. It is being phased out globally, but we keep CHAdeMO guns on ultra-fast bays because the cars using it have nowhere else to go.

Type 2 AC — the overnight plug

The AC half of CCS2, used on its own for destination charging at 7.4 kW to 22 kW. This is what a home wall box and most mall or hotel bays give you. Slower, cheaper, and perfectly matched to a car that is parked for hours anyway.

Bharat DC-001 and Bharat AC-001

India-specific standards defined for early low-cost EVs, capped around 15 kW DC and 10 kW AC. You will find them on older e-autos, some fleet vehicles and early Tata models. We still carry them on city and depot sites where those vehicles operate.

GB/T

The Chinese standard, present on a handful of imported vehicles and some buses. Rare in passenger cars here, but worth knowing exists.

3-pin 15A

Not really a charging standard — a domestic socket. Electric scooters and some three-wheelers charge from it at around 3.3 kW. Our two-wheeler canopies provide these under cover with proper earthing, which a random socket behind a shop does not.

How to stop thinking about this

Add your vehicle to your profile. Once we know the connector, every station result is filtered to bays that physically fit your car, and the ones that do not simply stop appearing.
